Scoring
Every answer belongs to a rarity tier. The rarer the tier, the more points you get. Each game has 7 prompts, so the top score is 700.
- Common10
- Overplayed15
- Solid30
- Rare60
- Obscure85
- Legendary100
| Tier | Points | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Common | 10 | The first thing most people say |
| Overplayed | 15 | Well known, and often chosen |
| Solid | 30 | A good answer that takes a moment |
| Rare | 60 | Most players will not think of this |
| Obscure | 85 | Very few players think of this |
| Legendary | 100 | The rarest answer for that prompt |
Max score
Seven Legendary answers in one game would score 700. Every prompt has exactly one Legendary answer, so that is very hard.
Other scoring rules
- Timeouts score 0.
- Passes score 0.
- Wrong guesses and unrecognized answers score nothing, but they do not cost points either.
- A "Did you mean X?" suggestion only scores if you submit it a second time before the clock runs out.
How we decide the tiers
For every prompt, we sort the possible answers by how common each word is in everyday English, using the open-source wordfreq dataset. That gives us a starting order. Then we adjust each prompt by hand, because word frequency alone does not always match how people really answer.
The tiers are our own editorial rating. They are not live data from players, and your answer does not change anyone's score.
